Endocrine Disorders

Conditions affecting hormone-producing glands

What it covers

Problems with pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, or pancreas glands (like diabetes).

What SSA looks for

SSA evaluates these based on how they affect other body systems. There isn't a separate listing just for having an endocrine disorder. Instead, they look for complications that meet criteria in other sections (e.g., diabetes causing heart problems [Cardiovascular], kidney failure [Genitourinary], nerve damage [Neurological], vision loss [Special Senses], severe skin infections [Skin], or mental health issues [Mental Disorders]). Recurrent episodes of very high or low blood sugar (ketoacidosis or hypoglycemia) needing intervention can also be considered.
