Congenital Disorders that Affect Multiple Body Systems

Disorders present from birth affecting multiple parts of the body

What it covers

This section primarily focuses on Non-mosaic Down syndrome. Other congenital disorders are evaluated based on which body systems they affect (using the criteria in those other sections).

What SSA looks for

Non-mosaic Down Syndrome: Confirmation via a lab report of karyotype analysis (genetic test), OR a doctor's report confirming the diagnosis (e.g., 'trisomy 21') based on prior testing and distinctive physical features, OR a doctor's report confirming features and functional level consistent with the diagnosis if no prior testing report is available. This generally qualifies automatically. Mosaic Down Syndrome: This form varies greatly and is evaluated based on the severity of its impact on affected body systems under other listing categories.
